Guest houses in Vieux Fort

Guest houses in vieux fort and the town are just minutes away from the soon to be expanded Hewanorra International airport (UVF) just 20 minutes away from Balenbouche Estate. Vieux Fort boasts one of the islands prettiest and longest white sand beaches, yet surprisingly few tourists or large hotels. There is only one resort on the north end of Sandy Beach St Lucia (also known as “Anse de Sable”). Lower down, there is a public beach with two or three little cafe’s, a popular hang-out for locals and visitors. The Reef restaurant and bar on Sandy beach St Lucia offers kite surfing lessons and kayak, lawn chair, kite and windsurfing equipment rentals.

Vieux Fort is St Lucia’s second largest town. The old downtown area of Vieux fort is very local and authentic, but a bit neglected, since many businesses have moved to the outskirts. Here you will find the local fish market, the Saturday morning farmer’s market, and remnants of traditional West Indian architecture.

Outside of the old town, along the main road, you will find several  gas stations, banks, a supermarket, drug store, internet cafe/print shop, phone companies Flow and Digicel, hardware store, snack places, and liquor store.

Going north towards Soufriere, there is the Gablewoods South shopping mall, which has a MASSY supermarket, restaurant, post office, small hardware store, dentist and several small shops.

The southernmost point of the island is the Moule a Chique Peninsula, where several guest houses in Vieux Fort and private villas are located. These include the Kimatrai hotel, Villa Caribbean Dream, Villa Wellness and Peace of Paradise. The viewing point opposite the lighthouse offers a great panoramic view of the South and the pitons. The St Judes hospital is located just outside town, in an repurposed sports stadium (its replacement is still under construction). Also located in Vieux Fort is the Windward Islands Brewery which makes the Heineken and Piton beer, and several international medical schools.

From Vieux Fort, you can take a local bus directly to Castries, Soufriere, Choiseul, Laborie, Augier, La Resource, and stop anywhere along the way.
