Calabash began as a store room for horseback riding equipment, behind the rainwater cistern which supplied the main house until 1998. Most of the structure was later replaced with a room for volunteers, with concrete blocks. About a decade later, the covered wooden deck was added, and the cottage was  renamed “Calabash” after the Calabash tree and lush vegetation it overlooks. During the Covid pandemic, we added a kitchenette with a beautiful tropical hardwood countertop to the deck, making the Calabash a fully self sufficient cabin.

Future plans for Calabash include replacing some of the plywood walls and ceilings with hardwood, replacing the queen bed with a king, raising the ceiling and roof, adding a door between bedroom and bathroom, and building an outdoor shower.
